Segment counting is standard across carriers. Per-segment rates vary by provider; the default shown is a common mid-market rate. iMessage has no segment math: Blue Reacher lines carry unlimited iMessages (50 opted-in / 30 cold new contacts a day) at a flat monthly rate.
Why segment math matters
SMS is billed per segment, not per message. A campaign that looks like one message per contact is frequently billed as two or three, and the trigger is usually invisible: a smart quote pasted from a doc, an emoji in the signature, or a message that runs eight characters past the limit.
At 5,000 contacts, one extra segment costs roughly $40 per send at typical rates. Run that campaign weekly and the rounding error becomes a budget line.
